🚀 [@thatsKAIZEN] Every American owes it to themselves to go see a SpaceX rocket launch. They’re a reminder that there's more to life than politics and problems. It would be useful to make this a field trip for public schools. There is no better demonstration of what makes America special.

SpaceX is now launching roughly the same number of satellites in a year as the number of operational non-SpaceX satellites in orbit cumulatively [@SawyerMerritt] SpaceX has officially surpassed its total number of launches from all of 2024 (138) — with more than two months still left in 2025. As is pointed out below, the SpaceX Falcon rocket will do more launches and carry more payload to orbit this year than the Space Shuttle did in its entire history [@ApoStructura] Falcon 9 vs Space Shuttle, all launches in one chart. F9 is on track to launch more times in 2025 alone than the Space Shuttle has in its history. Hard to overstate how successful SpaceX’s approach to reusability has been.

A permanently crewed lunar science base would be far more impressive than a repeat of what was already done incredibly well by Apollo in 1969 [@Truthful_ast] Blue Origin could likely land on the Moon before SpaceX but this is Blue Moon Mk1, a small lander testbed for Blue Moon Mk2 that would provide no value if man rated. Starship is a planet-colonizer class rocket. The magnitude of that task makes every other space transport task trivial. [@ApoStructura] Starship HLS is going to have 135x the living volume of the Apollo LEM! Sci-fi shows from 10y ago imagined future landers would be ~10x larger than the LEM, but we’re skipping over an entire generation and going straight to giant multipurpose ships. SpaceX is 20 years ahead.
