@JessePeltan For anything to do with engineering and science for sure, but Imperial has a certain romantic charm for civilian use. I set a more intuitive variant of metric for Starship: tons for force and mass, bar for pressure. It’s easier to do mental math, eg thrust to mass ratio, than

@WholeMarsBlog No, it’s dual, high performance terminals, which are important for maintaining the connection in choppy seas & heavy storms. Still obv premium pricing, but way cheaper & faster than alternatives. SpaceX was paying $150k/month for a much worse connection to our ships!

@WholeMarsBlog You mean 11.4.7? That should be going to wide release within a week. Version 12, which an almost total rewrite (~99% AI) is being tested by our QA drivers. Too much new code to go to the public yet, but it is mind-blowing imo.

@Rainmaker1973 Except for Starlink, which communicates via space lasers. Light travels ~40% faster in vacuum than fiber optics and on a more direct path, rather than following the outline of continents, so Starlink will be much faster over time than ocean cables. This is important.

@spideycyp_155 @SawyerMerritt @SpaceX In addition to terminals, we have to create, launch, maintain & replenish satellites & ground stations & pay telcos for access to Internet via gateways. @arstechnica @SciGuySpace Falcon 9 is almost always at max capacity. When it has “spare” performance, it flies back to land, which costs much less than using a droneship. Our fundamental constraint is mass to orbit per unit time. Last year, SpaceX launched roughly double payload mass of rest of world.
